Well, I'm off on vacation for the next two weeks! As my better half lives in Germany, we don't get to see each other as often as we would like--we saw each other last at Christmas. This time we are going to meet "halfway." Technically, it is closer for him, but I'll take a 5 hour flight (from the east coast of the US) over a 10 hour flight any time. Eieiei, since Christmas? That´s a pretty long time for a close relationship. I am glad I have my girlfriend here with me. May I ask you why you can´t work at the same place?
For right now, both of us are in grad school with about 1 year until we have a PhD. Although it is getting better, the American and German systems just aren't compatible at this point. A diplom means nothing to universities in the USA (even though I think it is pretty much equivalent to a better-than-average masters), and with my bachelors degree I didn't fit into the German system. Neither of us would have been satisfied without a graduate education, so we just had to put up with the long distance for a few more years.
